The People & Places Partnership has published a free, downloadable checklist for managing streets and public spaces as our town and city centres reopen.
Safe and welcoming spaces
As businesses continue to reopen and customers return to our town and city centres throughout summer 2020 as part of COVID-19 recovery, we understand the importance of managing public spaces in safe welcoming and welcoming ways. We also know that there is plethora of new guidance from government and organisations championing different sectors that it is a challenge to assimilate.
Simple checklist
To help local leaders understand the new guidance and how to apply it in managing streets and local spaces, we thought it would be helpful to put it together in one place as a simple to use checklist for managing streets & public spaces in 2020. We think this is particularly important for those towns that do not have the benefit of a professional place manager through a Business Improvement District (BID) or town partnership.
Alfresco dining and drinking
As hospitality businesses reopen, in this the third version of our checklist for managing streets and public spaces in summer 2020, we provide updates on new guidance around alfresco dining and drinking including food stalls and markets. This adds to existing information on pedestrian movement, green spaces and reallocating road space.
Extra guidance for towns
This work is part of a growing suite of resources available through our dedicated beyond COVID-19 web page including the revised revitalising town centres toolkit prepared for the Local Government Association. This includes case studies of good practice such as the story of Leamington’s safe and welcoming reopening.
