The Local Government Association (LGA) are working with the People & Places Partnership to develop a toolkit and guidance on the role of local councils in reviving town centres. The aim is to help local authorities and their elected members make better decisions with regards to actions and interventions in support of their town centres.
This work follows a successful seminar held in November 2017 and a related pilot study of Town Centre Revitalisation in Worksop undertaken with the People & Places Partnership. The summary report, Reviving Worksop Town Centre; a Forward Framework, provides useful insights to other councils that are setting about reviving their town centres.
Chris Wade, from People and Places is currently leading research in to the issues on behalf of the LGA. Chris is keen be able to understand local authority officers’ and members’ interests and experiences of town centre revitalisation including through a short online survey.
The guidance will be launched a town centre national conference on the 14th May that the LGA is organising in Westminster. Jake Berry MP, Minister for the Northern Powerhouse and Local Growth is attending and there will be a great line-up of other thought-provoking and expert speakers. More details and how to book can be found here.
