The People & Places Partnership is working with East Herts Council and local partners in planning for recovery in Hertford town centre as a foundation for its long-term revitalisation. Engaging with local stakeholders
The process began in September 2021 with workshops with key local business and community stakeholders, alongside a review of existing strategies for Hertford town centre. Such stakeholder engagement will be central in planning for the recovery in Hertford town centre. This short video gives an introduction to the process at that time proposed for the recovery & transformation of Hertford town centre.
The next step was a stakeholder feedback meeting for local community organisations early in 2022. The meeting shared the high level findings from the initial stakeholder engagement and strategy review. It also shared plans for proposed surveys of individual local businesses and town centre customers, and outlined possible steps for creating a lasting partnership to help improve the town centre. This short video gives a summary of the stakeholder feedback on the recovery process at this time.
Town centre baseline survey
The following stage involved in a detailed town centre survey that included business and access audits as well as online surveys of businesses and town centre users. Thanks to the help of local community organisations, the town centre users’ survey received a staggering 2,076 responses. National guidance on town centre recovery
This work in Hertford using the approach developed by People & Places for the Local Government Association’s revitalising town centres toolkit. This toolkit includes practical guidance on post-COVID 19 recovery planning including a case study on People & Places’ support for reopening & revitalising Selby town centre and reopening East Suffolk’s towns.
