In the midst of the town centre awards season we reflect on why putting your best foot(fall) forward is good for your town.
This week saw the launch of the Great British High Street Awards 2019. This follows the earlier launch of the ATCM Town and City Management Industry Awards.
Celebrating and sharing
Entering your town centre in to one of these awards helps focus the local team on achievements and leads to a community-wide celebration of success. Its also a key part of the national sharing of good practice that brings about continual improvement in town centre regeneration. Communities everywhere will have developed expertise in tackling different town centre challenges. People working to improve places learn best from peer-to-peer learning in this way. By putting your best foot(fall) forward you will be helping others to progress.
Rising Stars sought
As is so often the reality, your achievements can be a work in progress; giving you the chance to learn alongside others. The Great British High Street Awards includes a Rising Stars category for those up-and-coming communities on their way to transforming for the future. To enter, communities should be in the process of providing strong customer experience or planning for transforming for the future through new technologies and digital connectivity. They might also be involved in emerging sustainability and environment programmes or be showing innovative fresh thinking that might inspire others. .
Champions apply here
Those communities who are further along the road in leading the way to the town centre of the future can seek to be pronounced the UK’s champion High Street. In this way they will be helping others through shared learning and inspiring tales. Such philanthropic thoughts might also back them a £15,000 prize!
Summer school of learning
Entrants to the ATCM Town and City Management Awards get to gather and share success with their peers at the organisation’s Summer School on June 26th . The Award categories are varied and capture the range of good practice involved the people and places that make town tick. These include: Best Event; Best Social and Community Contribution; Best Digital High Street Scheme; Inspirational Leader of the Year; and Partnership of the Year. The deadline for applications is May 27th.
